Description
Designed to enjoy sake at its best, this ‘Tokkuri’ sake pitcher features ‘hakeme’ brush-stroke iron painting, a technique associated with Karatsu, where the artist is based. Iron-rich pigment is applied with a natural brush and fired to create deep brown tones, giving the rounded form a warm, textured and comforting presence. Perfect with ‘choko’ cups for a beautifully balanced table setting.

AGOBAY Showroom Zurich‘Tokkuri’ sake pitchers are a recurring style in Shingo Oka’s work and make versatile pieces that can also be used as vases. He starts with an ancient, traditional element, adding other expressive elements to make his mark. The Japanese potter intentionally chose a peaceful, secluded place for his workshop, in which he feels truly free: “This is where I spend my whole day, so I wanted to create an environment in which I could work comfortably, without the need to venture elsewhere. I can tend to the trees or walk off into the mountains.”

Taking care of your ‘Tokkuri’ sake pitcher includes avoiding stacking it with or storing it against other objects to prevent scratches or cracks. Wipe it with a soft cloth to dust it.
Rinse it with water using a soft dish cloth after each use. After cleaning it, let it air dry fully before you store it again. Do not wash it with any cleaning agents and avoid using abrasive sponges, dishwashers or drying machines.
The pitcher must not be directly exposed to temperature shocks – whether from a flame, conventional oven, microwave, induction cooktop, freezer, refrigerator or other source of heat or cold. If you notice cracks, chips or deep scrapes, please stop using it, as these can cause the item to break at any time.
