Craftsman Modernism

Combining the clarity of Modernism with traditional craftsmanship lies at the heart of BassamFellows, founded in 2003 by Australian architect Craig Bassam and American creative director Scott Fellows. Their approach, which they call ‘Craftsman Modern’, brings apparent opposites into quiet balance: functional simplicity and sensual comfort, handcraft and industrial production, precise geometry and a distinctly human quality. Working across architecture, interiors, furniture and objects, the pair see each discipline as part of a larger whole, guided by what they describe as ‘total design’. Underpinning their practice is a deep respect for construction, beauty and materials that grow richer with time. Sculptural yet purposeful, their furniture is conceived not simply for the present, but to be lived with and passed on through generations.
